Christmas Symbolism

Christ is born.

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ, the One who descends into human form. At this time we recall that moment when the Divine reveals itself in the depths of humanity.
We are all meant to be mothers of God.
Christmas is as much about Mary as it is about Jesus. Mary opens herself to allow God’s will to manifest through her. His presence is revealed as the Christ in the form of Jesus. Now the time is especially ripe for opening yourself to the Grace of God and to the spiritual motherhood of Christ. At this time we may pray the prayer of Mary: “Let it be done to me according to your word.”

Christmas isn’t only about the feel-good family get-togethers – though it is certainly a time to give love and practice Grace, just as God has done to us. Christmas is a moment – the eternal moment that pierces through time – when the impossible is done: God IS present despite the apparent separation. Nothing comes into being except by the Divine Consciousness that is the Christ. In Him is life, and that life is the light of all humanity.

Christmas is a special moment when we may contemplate the mystery of God present in the human soul, giving birth to the Christ Consciousness. Just as God descended into Mary and filled her with his Spirit, so too God descends into all humanity, into you – when you open to God’s Grace.

Jesus said, “Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Spiritual motherhood of the human soul is a deep insight into the mind of Christ.

Meister Eckhart wrote, “We are all meant to be Mothers of God.” He said that God made the human soul to bear the Son of God. To be the Mother of God we open ourselves to the will of God. Mary was told that the power of the Divine would overshadow her. The final realisation is to know that it is not we who live, but God alone who lives in us.

Have a Mary Christmas!
